My Story

Ari Knight

My name is Ari Knight. I’m a graphic designer, photographer, musician, painter, jewelrymaker, sculptor, songwriter, director, and pretty much everything in between. I first got my start in design and photography at Corvallis High School, and am currently attending Oregon State to finish up a degree in Graphic Design with a minor in Photography. I’ve been doing both design and photography for nearly 8 years now, and Cranegirl Creations has been my baby for the last five.

The name “Cranegirl” comes from my love for folding origami cranes. Anytime I get a hold of anything flat, it’s likely to become a crane. Towels, napkins, paper plates, candy wrappers, clay, sticky notes, aluminum foil, you name it. My favorite part of the process is gifting them to friends and strangers alike, or even leaving them around to be discovered later. I never tire of the smile it puts on people’s faces.

As a child, I spent my free time making…everything. I always liked to say that my video games were Microsoft Publisher and PowerPoint. I could identify most Word fonts when I was still in elementary school (although it seems like that power has waned since). So I suppose it was inevitable that I became a graphic designer!

Most importantly, I’ve never been someone who does things just for the money. The fact that I’ve never had to is a privilege in and of itself. I create for the purity of creating; for the sake of putting beauty into the world, for showing others what only I am capable of dreaming up. My ultimate dream is just to see my work appear in real life; browsing online, walking around a store, driving down the street. More than anything, I appreciate your help in getting me there.
